Ocean textures
I have now begun to work on the ocean texture, I am happy with the way that the ocean model has turned out, however proving to provide the right texture is quite difficult.
I am torn between making the scene very clean and tidy and just going for a select colour for the entire thing or going for something quite arty and that is a little bit of a statement ( painterly/ cartoony ). Below we have some ocean textures which I have been trying out on the model to see what effects I can get. The effects are able to be varied not just by the texture itself but also the amount of specular, contrast and opacity, all play apart in how the final product looks.
Graphics for the Yacht
I wanted to texture the yacht with something that was quite striking. Many of the recent racing builds tend to have a very eye catching art piece through out the yacht which is seemingly impressive from a distance. It's hard to try and find a balance from the graphics being good but not to overwhelming to distract from the sweeping geometry of the boat itself.
This design looked rather good as a texture for the yacht. the contrasting colours looked very powerful ( and slightly jazzy ). I decided in the end that it was too powerful and actually distracted from the pleasing geometry of the boat.
The following texture was an idea for the hull, I liked having a texture that faded through the entire boat ( similar to go faster stripes ). The pattern proved to piecey for the boats solid geometric architecture.
Again this texture was good in theory but the
For the Greek head bust I have begun using Alphas to create a cracked effect. This is also using one of the sandy base materials that comes with Z Brush. This is just the starting point of the process and I will be sure to post the final piece.
Creating the water for this scene has proven to be one of the biggest obstacles in the design process, with countless ways of going about it and doing it for the first time, it has been a bit of a maze to get my head around. I have try'd metallic materials, glass, diamond, and yes even beer with different coloured sharers. I have doubled up the ocean mesh and had the top level with a reduced opacity to observe relevant outcomes.
Final touches in Photoshop
For the final touches to make my final renders pop I have taken them into Photoshop. By using a selection of tools such as lens blur, auto tone, auto contrast and working with layers I have been able to significantly increase the overall image quality.
Within this image the wash of the waves helps give the boat a sense of motion, using lense blurs I was able to fade the water as it reaches the back of the image.
I wanted to get some very dynamic angles on the Yacht, I need to place the camera where a person would actually be. Of course the most obvious place is behind the helm.
